New Year, New Trends

It’s hard to believe that this year will be coming to an end in just a few short days, and with a new year comes new trends in the form of spring fashion. And although January is the peak of winter for the Midwest, Lake Forest and Lake Bluff boutiques are already stocking their stores with spring must-haves. Forest & Bluff magazine spoke with Ellen Sterling of the Lake Forest Shop to get her take on two of next season’s hot new trends.

September’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week was more colorful than ever, with bold pieces that will make classic separates pop. “At the Lake Forest Shop we are going to be doing a lot of bright colors in a variety of textiles,” Ellen said. “We are carrying lots of bright greens, pinks, and oranges. It makes everything look fun yet feminine.” (F&B style tip: Settle on three colors—max—this will evade any Rainbow Brite associations.)

Another look dominating the Spring/Summer 2012 runways were prints. Just like color, bold is beautiful. It’s all about brilliantly styled, head-to-toe patterns, and while there are plenty to choose from florals and geometric shapes seem to be the ones on the hit list. “It’s all about fabric,” Ellen said. “We are going to have a lot of prints and textures, especially floral which is a spring staple.” (F&B style tip: If you are looking to mix prints without being an eye sore, choose similar patterns in varying sizes for a chic ensemble minus the business.)
